Keeping you connected…Education

The WOCN Society is considered the gold standard in educating the field on wound, ostomy and continence patient care. The content for all education is developed by a group of volunteers devoted to sharing their vast knowledge and expertise. The Society support members by providing educational and learning tools to help advance your practice and assist in the delivery of expert health care.

  • Annual Conference – Continuing education sessions will provide you with the opportunity to learn from top clinical experts, addressing health care problems relating to all patient populations and practice settings.
  • The Journal of Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing (JWOCN) – The bimonthly publication is the official journal of the WOCN Society and a leading resource on WOC research and practice issues. Membership includes online access for searching archived materials, related publications, resources and more.
  • WOC Nursing Scope & Standards – Wound, Ostomy and Continence (WOC) nursing was recently recognized by the American Nurses Association (ANA) as a specialty. To earn this distinction, the Society developed a full scope and standards document. The WOC Nursing Scope and Standards document is essential to anyone practicing in the field. The information can be used to familiarize WOC nurses with where the profession came from, its current expectations and where it is evolving. Knowledge is power and that is precisely what these volumes provide---knowledge to begin dialogue with administrators, professors, politicians, patients and others to ensure that all decisions regarding WOC nurses come from a well-informed place.
  • Evidence-Based Wound Care Guidelines – The four Evidence-Based Guidelines are detailed and comprehensive Guidelines that are essential resources for health professionals, who specialize in, direct or provide wound care. Guidelines cover Prevention and Management of Pressure Ulcers and for Patients with Lower-Extremity Arterial, Venous, and Neuropathic Disease.
  • The Global Learning Center – The Global Learning Center affords you the opportunity to obtain contact hours online. Members receive a discount on all courses and some are offered for free.
  • Portable Instructional Education (PIE) – PIE is an organized collection of WOCN educational tools aimed to assist practitioners in the acute care home healthcare field to: train staff, provide quick assessment tools, print patient care documents, and learn the best techniques for care of patients with wound, ostomy, and continence needs.
  • Best Practice Publications – The Society offers Best Practice documents focusing on wound, ostomy, and continence care for both the clinician and patients. Additional documents are available free to members.
  • Image Library (Member's Only) – Contains an assortment of images related to the care of wound, ostomy and incontinence patients and provides the opportunity to search images, learn more about the image, and download for professional purposes.

The information in these fact sheets will help you in your professional career and in the direction, coordination and evaluation of patient care.
