Getting to Know the Candidates

By now, many of you have already read about the several great candidates we have pursuing positions on the WOCN Board. Their full bios and photos can be found by clicking here.

 

To change things up a little, we thought it would be fun to ask the candidates some different questions to allow their fellow members to get to know them better. Here are the wonderful and interesting responses we received!

 

Dea Kent (President Elect)

  • What is your favorite book? Hard to pick just one......Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah
  • What is your favorite movie? Steel Magnolias...the original version
  • What do you like to do in your free time? What free time? Travel, spend time with family and friends, laugh, do new things!
  • What is an interesting fact few people know about you? I have been a member of a rock band, called "The Smooth Operators" made up of doctors and a few others, and our purpose was to play and raise money for uninsured people so that they could obtain healthcare.  We played together for 3 years and raised quite a bit of money.  I played keyboards and provided vocals!

Deborah Zaricor (Director-at-Large, Area #1)

  • What is your favorite book?  My favorite book is Goldfinch because it was so beautifully written
  • What is your favorite movie?  Pulp Fiction is my favorite movie. I thought the writing, directing and acting were superb.
  • What do you like to do in your free time? In my free time I enjoy spending time with my grandchildren, playing golf and traveling. I have visited 34 countries and have many more on my list.
  • What is an interesting fact few people know about you? The fact that some people do not know about me is at one time I was in the entertainment industry. I am a member of the screen actor guild having principal roles in film and television including a national commercial. I also performed stand up but rarely made any money at stand up.  

Vittoria (Vicky) Pontieri-Lewis (Director-at-Large, Area #3)

  • What is your favorite book?  Tough one. Goodnight Moon is my favorite kids book read it every night to my kids. 
  • What is your favorite movie?  Gone with the Wind and The Sound of Music. As a girl my dad would take us to the movies every time they were showing
  • What do you like to do in your free time? Other than devoting my life to my patients, my priority has always been my family.  Raising my two kids and seeing them become beautiful young adults has made my husband and I’m so proud of both of them.  I enjoy skiing with my family and friends and traveling.
  • What is an interesting fact few people know about you? My husband is from Kansas and we have wheat farm in which we go back to Kansas in the summer to harvest the wheat. We also grown sunflowers, corn, and milo. Being raised in the city this was quite an adventure for me. Lewis farms has been in the family for generations and will passed on to our children. 

Carole Dye (Nominating Committee, Area #3)

  • What is your favorite book?  The harry potter series. Imagery fantastic and kept me wanting more.
  • What is your favorite movie?  - seeing Jurassic Park for the first time on the big screen. The dinosaurs were real!
  • What do you like to do in your free time?  I find new antique stores and look for that piece of Fiestaware nobody new existed.
  • What is an interesting fact few people know about you? My collection of Fiestaware includes two  place settings of each color manufactured since its beginnings in the early 1930's to today- 80 at last count. Not including the new fiesta we use everyday. (No OCD here)

Barbara List (Director-at-Large, Area #1)

  • What is your favorite book?  The Bible
  • What is your favorite movie?  The Hunger Games
  • What do you like to do in your free time? Read and shop
  • What is an interesting fact few people know about you?  I am the only one of my 5 brothers and sisters that graduated from college.

Marta Krissovich (Director-at-Large, Area #1)

  • What is your favorite book?  The Harry Potter series
  • What is your favorite movie?  Slumdog Millionaire
  • What do you like to do in your free time? Rowing sculls and sailing
  • What is an interesting fact few people know about you? I used to serve as a skiing and horseback riding guide to persons who are totally blind.

Kelly Jaszarowski (President-Elect)

  • What is your favorite book?  I really do not have one favorite book as much as I do favorite authors. While I enjoy reading a variety of books, my favorite authors include Jodi Picoult, Jonathan Kellerman and John Grisham
  • What is your favorite movie? One of my favorite movies is The Blind Side. We are a sports enthusiastic family with football being one of those sports.  The movie, The Blind Side, contains so many life's lessons. There are lessons of loving unconditionally, accepting people for who they truly are, and the importance of family to name just a few.
  • What do you like to do in your free time? In my free time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I enjoy just hanging out, traveling, camping, walks, and time together.
  • What is an interesting fact few people know about you? While many people are aware that my residence has changed many times during my married life, many people do not know that I am an East Coast girl. That is, I was born in New Jersey and lived there for several years before moving to the Midwest.

Lindsay McCrea (Nominating Committee, Area #1)

  • What is your favorite book?  A recent favorite: Inside of a Dog by Alexandra Horowitz
  • What is your favorite movie? Sayanora
  • What do you like to do in your free time? Anything with my Rhodesian Ridgeback, Hudson and lots of time gardening
  • What is an interesting fact few people know about you? I won a twist contest with my brother at the age of ten whilst cruising the Caribbean on the SS Oriana on the way to the UK.

Michele (Shelly) Burdette-Taylor (Director-at-Large, Area #1)

  • What is your favorite book?  Abundant Health by White written in 1950.
  • What is your favorite movie? Holiday with Cameron, Kate, Jack and Jude
  • What do you like to do in your free time? Running with Reindeer in Alaska with Adonis
  • What is an interesting fact few people know about you? I live on a boat in San Diego and Bed and Breakfast in Alaska.
