Celebrate with us! This year, we're
thanking our WOC nurses for the work they do all year during WOC Nurse Week,
April 13-19, 2014.
WOC nursing combines the kind and considerate care that patients suffering from wound, ostomy and incontinence issues need, with the improved patient care results that nurses deliver, lowering costs and changing the lives of patients.
The Impact of a WOC NurseA recent study investigated how WOC nurses affect patient outcomes in home health care settings and found that patients in home health care agencies with a WOC nurse, compared to agencies without a WOC nurse, were: - Nearly twice as likely to have improvement in pressure ulcers.
- 20% more likely to have improvement in lower extremity ulcers.
- 40% more likely to have improvement in surgical wounds.
- 40% more likely to have improvement in urinary incontinence.
- 14% more likely to have improvement in bowel incontinence.
The goal of WOC Nurse Week 2014 is to spread the word and educate others about the work WOC nurses do every day for patients with wounds, ostomies and incontinence. Only WOC nurses combine Compassionate Care & Results to make this difference. It also provides information about the certification process and credentials available from the WOCNCB and describes the eligibility criteria.
