The ostomy bill, requiring coverage of ostomy supplies
in New York State has passed!
What You Need to Know:
The numbers of the bill in the Assembly and Senate are A10140 and S7893.
We can't quite uncork the champagne yet, because for it to become the law of the land, Governor Cuomo has to sign it into law.
Review of all pending legislation will be completed within the next week or two and the Bills will be passed to the Governor for signing into law.
There were some changes to the original Bill Including the numbers for the Bill in both the Senate and the Assembly. This was because the Bill now covers commercial insurance policies but not those sponsored by the State such as Medicaid. However, ostomy supplies are now covered by all such programs except Child Health Plus.
What You Need to Do:
It is critically important that you communicate your support of the bill and urge him to sign it.
A long message is not necessary but it needs to include something along the following lines: "I ask that you sign into law Assembly bill A10140 and Senate bill S7893, that concern the provision of more extensive insurance coverage for people who have undergone ostomy surgery."
Sign the online petition to the Governor at the website www.bit.ly/nysostomybill, and post the petition on your personal social media profiles (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, etc.) for maximum effect.
Any petitions you have signed can be sent or re-sent.
Every phone call, every email, every message to the Governor can make a difference. We have gone so far that failure now is truly not an option. Our patients are counting on us to make that difference in their lives. Thank you for all of your help and support!
