NPUAP Terminology Update

As you may be aware, the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (NPUAP) recently made updates to the pressure ulcer staging system, including a shift in terminology from pressure ulcer to pressure injury.

The WOCN Society has expressed support for this update, but we recognize that the new terminology may cause some short-term issues in regards to coding, payment, etc. We will continue to share any updates that the NPUAP provides as they work to standardize the terminology.

In the meantime, the NPUAP has provided an FAQ document which features more information on the changes. You may view the FAQ here.
Update to the Pressure Ulcers (Injuries) Guideline

The WOCN Society has updated the Guideline for Prevention and Management of Pressure Ulcers (Injuries).

This is an update to the 2010 Guideline for Prevention and Management of Pressure Ulcers. It is intended for use by healthcare professionals who specialize in, direct, or provide wound care for patients with or at risk for pressure ulcers.

It will be available in the WOCN bookstore soon. In the meantime, you can browse other publications.
