A New Beginning

Society member Ann-Marie Waechter, BSN, RN, CWCN, MS-BC, is on board the Africa Mercy, the world's largest private hospital ship.

 
Ann-Marie is serving as part of an advance team that is providing specialized care to those in Africa who have no other access to safe, affordable surgical and anesthetic care.

 
She is documenting her experience in a series of guest blogs. Read the first blog post titled, "A New Beginning," which details the beginning of her new nursing journey.

Rooted in Results

Submit an abstract in the areas of wound, ostomy, continence or professional practice and join your peers in Salt Lake City to show how your research is rooted in results.

The submission site will be open until Wednesday, Nov. 2, 11:00 AM ET. Authors who are selected to present their posters will receive notification in December.

What advice do you have for nurses just starting their careers?
This is not a job but a professional calling. You will walk with your patients through their most vulnerable times. Always appreciate what an honor it is to have the opportunity to help your patients and their families develop and reach their healthcare goals.
What is your favorite part about being a WOC nurse?
The autonomy and privilege of having a caseload of patients that you may follow short or long term. Teaching patients, learning from them and being their advocate when needed. Being a part of a multidisciplinary team that strives to deliver positive patient outcomes every day. Each new day brings challenges to keep you engaged, and learning is so very satisfying.
