Stay up-to-date on the latest news from the WOCN® Society's Regions and Affiliates. If you would like to submit an update for the next newsletter, please email Heather Martinek at hmartinek@wocn.org.

The Mid-Atlantic Region is composed of seven affiliates: Baltimore Affiliate, Blue Ridge Affiliate, Central Virginia Affiliate, Eastern Shore (DE/MD) Affiliate, Hampton Roads Affiliate, Washington D.C. Affiliate and the Western Maryland Affiliate. Our region has the variable topography that matches the various levels of talent we have in our region. With Washington D.C. in our region, we have the opportunity to keep a pulse on all the potential changes and challenges in healthcare that could impact our practice as well as the patients we serve.

As a region, our affiliates promote educational opportunities for our colleagues across the continuum of care, for our patient populations from birth to death and for our members. As a region, we promote research and evidence-based practice with improved outcomes. This was exemplified by the quality posters and presentations from our region that were displayed at the WOCN Society's 49th Annual Conference.

In today's high-tech, fast-paced lives and work force, we will seek new and innovative methods to communicate to our members. We recognize the vast levels of talent and knowledge exemplified by our members. We will be seeking out creative methods for communication across our region, as well as looking for ways to support our members through increased opportunities for networking and sharing clinical expertise.
Mid-Atlantic Region

The Baltimore Affiliate's 2017 kick-off meeting included a personal stylist with professional "dress for success" concepts. Meeting every other month, we have learned contemporary practices from SteadMed Medical and Wellsense VU. Coloplast hosted an educational dinner in Baltimore's Little Italy. During WOC Nurse Week, our members presented the "Advancing the Practice" workshop where Sue Currence, BSN, RN, CWON, CWCN, COCN, presented parastomal hernia management, Brenda Hensley, MSN, RN, CWOCN, presented fistula care across the continuum, Rachel Moseley, MS, BSN, CWON, presented intravenous drug related cutaneous lesions and KCI/Acelity demonstrated the use of the fistula crown. We organized a community intradisciplinary debridement workshop led by Lawrence Raymond, DPT, for 25 local WOC nurses and colleagues.

The Baltimore Affiliate has continued annual support of the United Ostomy Association of America Inc (UOAA) Youth Rally and Osto Group with donations, camper registration and purchases through AmazonSmile. Future plans include palliative care needs, Friendsgiving and national pressure injury prevention activities.

Respectfully submitted,
Cindy Walker, MSN, APRN-CNS, CWON
Greater Baltimore Affiliate President
