Pressure Ulcer Staging Position Statement

View the new Pressure Ulcer Staging Position Statement here >>

In 2009, the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (NPUAP/EPUAP) defined a pressure ulcer as localized injury to the skin and/or underlying tissue usually over a bony prominence, as a result of pressure, or pressure in combination with shear. The Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society (WOCN) supports the use of the NPUAP Staging System and recognizes the importance of staging in the management of acute and chronic pressure ulcers. This document provides both supportive statements and recommendations for staging pressure ulcers.
