What is the WOCN Foundation?

Who we are…

Founded in 1978, the WOCN Foundation is a 501(c)(3) corporation created and operated by the WOCN Society. It was incorporated to oversee two of the Society’s most important elements: research and education.

What we do…

The purposes of the WOCN Foundation are to raise and disseminate funding for educational and research activities related to wound, ostomy and continence nursing. We aim to achieve these objectives for the betterment of the WOC community and to further advance our patients quality of life.

How we do it…

The WOCN Foundation is committed to being the leader in the creation and dissemination of research to support WOC nursing care and the value of the WOC nurse specialist.

Due to the awareness of the growing need for WOC nurses throughout the world and a strong belief in the continued growth and success of WOC nursing, the WOCN Society awards educational scholarships. This program provides funding to students attending an accredited WOCN Society Educational Program (WOCNEP) or WOCN Society member pursuing advanced degrees. Scholarships are awarded twice a year and are funded through the generous contributions of inspired individuals, industry partners, endowments and regional/affiliate participation. Through people just like you, we are able to create a lasting network of certified WOC nurses who will continue to provide excellent healthcare to our patients for years to come. More information about the WOCN Foundation Educational Scholarship Program can be found here.

What are WOCN Foundation Scholarships?

Much like the saying: "Our children are our future", it is no secret that the survival of the WOC specialty depends on those that come after us. It is because of this great need and the belief that education holds the key to the advancement of our practice that the WOCN Foundation awards educational scholarships. Scholarships are awarded twice a year to deserving individuals committed to working within the wound, ostomy and continence nursing specialty. Applicants agree to support the WOCN Society’s philosophy and scope of practice.

How are these made possible?

The WOCN Foundation is able to provide this benefit to those deserving of it through one method: charity. Whether this charity comes through the generosity and foresight of our corporate partners or through the love and support of you, the private citizen, all of the Foundation scholarship awards are made possible by the charitable donations of those who recognize the value of an accredited WOC nurse. Without this support, many fine and qualified individuals would not be able to attain the training necessary to make a difference in patient's lives.
