|APRN Regulation Update: Consensus Model And Legislative Successes|
Greetings, WOCN Members!
Of special interest to all those aspiring to or actively working in Advanced Practice Registered Nurse roles, the WOCN Society is offering a link to the annual Legislative Update from The Nurse Practitioner: The American Journal of Primary Care.
Increasingly, WOCN Members are equipping themselves for practice in Advanced Practice Registered Nurse roles, and inquiring about supervisory, regulatory, and reimbursement issues every day. This Legislative Update link will hopefully provide that vital information.
Since 1973, all states have passed legislation granting Nurse Practitioners supervisory, collaborative, or independent authority to practice. The data provided state-by-state on this link is compiled from state Boards of Nursing and state professional associations, and addresses the core issues of practice authority, prescriptive authority, and reimbursement for service. Information about those states considering implementation of the 2008 Consensus Model for APRN Regulation: Licensure, Accreditation, Certification and Education is also provided. The goal of this Consensus Model, which was endorsed by both the WOCN Society and the WOCNCB, is to provide states with standardized regulatory language intended to improve access to patient care by eliminating practice barriers. This document will also be available on the WOCN Society website.
Since Advanced Practice Nursing is governed by state laws and regulations, we hope that these tools will be uniquely valuable to you as you track APRN legislative and regulatory progress in your area.
