Updated Version Now Available: Basic Ostomy Skin Care
Individuals who have a stoma often have many of the same questions and concerns. The Basic Ostomy Skin Care: A Guide for Patient and Health Care Providers is a resource that answers some of the most frequently asked questions regarding the care of a stoma and the skin around the stoma. Although this document was created with the consumer in mind, it may also be helpful for clinicians as a teaching tool.

Basic Ostomy Skin Care: A Guide for Patient and Health Care Providers is an updated version to the 2012 document. You can view this updated document anytime by visiting the WOCN Document Library.

Fourth WOC Nurse Receives National Magnet Nurse of the Year ® Award
The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) has announced the winners of the 2018 National Magnet Nurse of the Year Award Program.

The Society would like to extend its congratulations to member Sandy Quigley, MSN, RN, CPNP-PC, CWOCN, for being chosen as the 2018 National Magnet Nurse of the Year for New Knowledge, Innovations, and Improvements!

WOC nurses have now received the National Magnet Nurse of the Year Award 4 out of 8 years since the awards' inception in 2011!

WOC Nurse Inducted into American Academy of Nursing "Academy Fellows"
The American Academy of Nursing has selected 195 highly distinguished nurse leaders as its 2018 class of Academy fellows. The Academy fellows is comprised of more than 2,500 nurse leaders in education, management, practice, policy, and research. Academy fellows include hospital and government administrators, college deans, and renowned scientific researchers.

The Society would like to extends its congratulations to member Joyce Pittman, PhD, ANP-BC, FNP-BC, CWOCN, Indiana University Health, for being inducted as a 2018 Academy fellow!
Help Demonstrate the Value of Advanced Care Planning (ACP)
The WOCN Society has joined nursing specialty organizations representing more than 700,00 nurses to promote ACP. The ACP #ISaidWhatIWant initiative, led by the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association (HPNA), encourages all nurses to lead by example by establishing their own advanced care plan.
