Sponsored Emails from the Society

As a follow up to the email "A Message from a WOCN Society Supporter" sent at 7:00pm EDT on September 10th, the WOCN Society does not endorse or support products or services. The Society would like to assure you that this message was approved and distributed by the Society as an advertising message. This message and any future advertising messages are sent from the National Office as a result of a new service package provided by the WOCN Society National Office. The Society would like to assure its members that their email addresses were not given to companies or outside vendors. We will continue to modify and improve this process as we move forward.

emPOWERed Program: Spotlight On the Professional Practice Manual, Fourth Edition

One component of the WOCN Society's emPOWERed program is the Professional Practice Manual, Fourth Edition. The newly-updated manual now includes chapters on grant writing and health care delivery systems. In addition, the manual boasts expanded chapters on legal aspects of wound, ostomy and continence (WOC) nursing, and the WOC nurse's role in evidence-based practice and research.

The manual is an excellent resource for any WOC nurse who wants to strengthen his or her role within a health care organization, or develop the role in a new organization. It acts as a foundation to the "business side" of nursing. Though there are WOC-specific chapters in the Professional Practice Manual, Fourth Edition, there is also a wealth of useful information for any nurse or health care professional.

The emPOWERed program is commercially supported by an educational grant from Smith & Nephew.

Call for Abstracts Now Open!

Fine tune your WOC skills by submitting an abstract for the WOCN Society's 46th Annual Conference!

All accepted abstracts will be presented in some form during the conference, available on the WOCN Society website and printed in a supplement of the Journal of Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing (JWOCN). Only accepted Research abstracts will be considered for oral presentations during the Annual Conference. If your abstract is not accepted for oral presentation, it will be presented as a poster presentation.

Sage Products, Inc. has given the WOCN® Society an unrestricted educational grant to provide a limited number of travel scholarships to support first-time abstract presenters who submit an abstract focused on Preventative Practices for Wounds. Please be sure to check off the first-time presenter button and make sure you choose Preventative Practices under the Wound category.
Advocacy and Policy Tab Updates

The National Public Policy Committee is pleased to announce the new and improved Advocacy and Policy Tab on the WOCN website. The Advocacy and Policy Tab has been redesigned to be easier to navigate with more useful resources for both WOC nurses and patients.

The new page contains many valuable tools for use by WOC nurses and patients to advocate on their own behalf. Included you will find an Advocacy and Policy Home Page, where you will find areas dedicated to Federal Advocacy, State Advocacy, information on how to Take Action, the National Public Policy Committee contact information, Helpful Tools, information on Other Health Care Organizations, the WOCN Public Policy and Advocacy Health Care Agenda and much more.

Be sure to visit the new Advocacy and Policy Tab frequently for important updates and tools to improve your WOC practice!
