Reminder: Call for Abstracts Deadline

Remember to submit your abstract for the WOCN Society's 47th Annual Conference by Tuesday, December 30.

All accepted abstracts will be presented in some form during the conference, available on the WOCN website and printed in a supplement of the Journal of Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing. Only accepted research abstracts will be considered for oral presentations. If your abstract is not accepted for an oral presentation, it will be included as a poster presentation.

Have you ever wished for someone to talk to who would "get it"? Someone who understands what it's like to be a WOC nurse but who is not enmeshed in the same work culture you are? Someone to whom you can ask the questions you don't feel comfortable asking your work colleagues? If so, you should Ask the WOC Nurse today!
Your question and answer may be published anonymously in the next issue of In It For You.

Leave Your Mark Photo Contest

Have you received the latest issue of In It For You?

If so, camera.jpg you should have received your official Leave Your Mark Photo Contest vision board. Whether an educator, consultant, researcher, or administrator, each WOC nurse leaves their mark in a unique way. The WOCN Society would like our members to share how they leave their mark now, in 2015, and beyond!

Share how you are currently leaving your mark or plan to leave your mark on patients, their families, your colleagues, the WOC nursing specialty or the WOCN Society by writing on your vision board. If you choose to participate, snap a picture of you and your vision board and you will be entered to win a special prize and your photo(s) will be featured at the WOCN Society's 47th Annual Conference in San Antonio!

2015 Call for Research Proposals

The Center for Clinical Investigation (CCI) of the WOCN Society Foundation is pleased to announce the Call for Proposals for one 2015 WOCN Society Member's Research Grant in the amount of $10,000. If you are a registered nurse and current member of the WOCN Society, you are eligible to be a Principal Investigator of this grant and are invited to apply. Eligible international members may also apply.

Through this grant, the CCI and the WOCN Society aim to expand the existing research base for WOC nursing practice and facilitate WOC nurses to be engaged in research as clinical investigators. The 2015 WOCN Society Member's Research Grant will fund studies that aim to improve health outcomes of patients with WOC problems, strengthen the evidence base of WOC nursing practice, and enhance the delivery of WOC nursing care.

The application deadline is February 9, 2015, at 4:30 pm CST. For more information, click here.

Writers and potential authors may sometimes perceive many obstacles to writing for publication.
Such obstacles include a lack of time, fear of rejection and a lack of familiarity with the publication process. However, writing professionally can be a very rewarding experience, as it provides opportunities to:

  • Contribute to the worldwide WOC knowledge base and improve the delivery of patient care
  • Advance the practice of WOC nursing and the overall nursing profession
  • Provide pilot information for larger studies and product development
  • Disseminate research findings to a global audience
  • Advance an individual WOC nurse's career
  • Create a permanent record of WOC nursing practice
  • Gain professional and personal recognition and credit for ideas and contributions
The Professional Practice Manual, Fourth Edition, discusses the planning, preparation and process for submitting a manuscript for publication as well as common types of articles that WOC nurses might consider writing. The emPOWERed program is commercially supported by an educational grant from Smith & Nephew.
