The WOCN Society national election is currently underway. This important election will determine the President-Elect, Director-at-Large Area #1, Director-at-Large Area #3, and two Nominating Committee members. On March 3 and 18, the Society sent all members eligible to vote an email featuring a link to the election website and a unique voter ID number. Active, Retired Active, and Honorary Life Members are eligible; if you have membership in one of these categories and did not receive an email with your voter ID number, please let us know.

Check out the WOCN blog to get a closer look at this year's candidates.

Be sure to cast your vote before Tuesday, March 31.

WOCN Member Testifies Before CMS Panel

On March 9, WOCN member Dorothy Doughty testified before the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Advisory Panel on Hospital Outpatient Payment on the supervision requirements for conservative sharp wound debridement. This is part of an ongoing effort by the Society to protect the scope of practice for a certified WOC nurse and to ensure that Medicare requirements do not hinder our ability to treat patients. The Society continues to work with CMS to find the appropriate level of supervision requirements for the services we deliver in every care setting so that we can provide the best care possible without limiting access to the services of a WOC nurse.

Look for updates from the Society on this important topic in the future.

Break Out Your Photo Albums

The Society is working on a special video project to premiere at this year's conference. We are looking for photos from the past 50 years that feature WOC nurses, WOCN Society events, or anything relating to the WOC specialty. Photos from the early years of WOC nursing (1960's-1980's) are especially welcome.

If you have any photos to contribute, please email them to us by April 15.

Have You Joined the Conversation?

One of the many benefits of joining an association is the opportunity to connect with peers and discuss your specialty. When WOC nurses join the WOCN Society, not only do they have access to education, events and networking, they also have access to the Forums section of the WOCN Member Center, which allows them to connect with other WOC nurses in an instant.

How can you better connect with other WOC nurses on the WOCN Forums? Check out the WOCN blog to learn more about how to cultivate a strong online presence.

Learn More about the WTA Program

1. Did you know that more than 70 facilities across the US offer the WTA Program? View
a list of facilities that currently offer the program and are able to enroll external participants.

2. Since its inception in 2012, more than 1,500 participants have enrolled in the WTA program. More than 1,100 participants completed the course with a 95% passing rate.

3. According to a 2014 survey, these are the top three reasons why WOCN members chose to bring the WTA Program to their facilities:
  • Recognizing a need for more nurses on the floor to understand and deliver proper/better-quality wound care recommended by the CWOCNs;
  • Making a decision to add more qualified personnel and expanding the wound care team at the facility; and
  • Understanding the need for evidence-based wound care knowledge at the clinician level.
