Meet Your Great Comebacks® Award Recipients
Entering its 30th year, Great Comebacks recognizes the inspirational achievements of people who have overcome serious intestinal diseases, colorectal cancer and other conditions that can lead to ostomy surgery.

The Great Comebacks National Awards Event will once again kick off the WOCN Society's Annual Conference. Join us for an amazing evening filled with emotional and inspiring stories of hope, courage and accomplishment from our ostomy community.

The following people were chosen as Great Comebacks Award recipients and will be honored at this year's Great Comebacks National Awards Event Dinner:

Herman Morchel

Nutley, NJ

East Region

At the age of 31, Herman Morchel was a successful engineering executive. But when he began hemorrhaging after a sudden illness, doctors diagnosed him with severe ulcerative colitis and performed an emergency ileostomy.

Lee Thrash

Birmingham, AL

South Region

Three months shy of high school graduation, Lee Thrash was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease, and for the next 12 years she fought to have a "normal" life, pushing through flares, illness and chronic weakness.

Perry Swisher

Oshkosh, NE

Central Region

Familial adenomatous polyposis syndrome (FAP) is a rare and inherited disease that leads to colon cancer, usually by the age of 40. Perry Swisher is far too familiar with how it can devastate a family. His grandmother died at the age of 53 and his mother died at the age of 36 - both from colon cancer. His uncle was diagnosed very young and opted for an ileostomy in his early 20s.

Nicole Kilgore

Linden, CA

West Region

Nicole Kilgore was diagnosed with Hirschsprung's disease at the age of 20. After exhausting all efforts to treat her symptoms with medication, she began a journey of misdiagnoses, treatments and surgeries that eventually led to an ileostomy.
