Leaving Our Mark: A Celebration of Our Past, Present and Future

Wound, ostomy and continence nursing is one of the few specialty nursing practices that is unique to nursing. The roots of our professional heritage can be traced to the rise of enterostomal therapy in the mid-20th century. From these proud roots, the specialty of WOC nursing has grown to a globally recognized specialty nursing practice that is practiced in all care settings by both expert and advanced practice nurses. During the WOCN Society's 47th Annual Conference, Mikel Gray, PhD, PNP, FNP, CUNP, CCCN, FAANP, FAAN, reviewed the history of the specialty practice and celebrated some of its most historically relevant practitioners. If you did not have the opportunity to experience this closing keynote session in-person or through live streaming, we encourage you to view the videos that Dr. Gray showcased during this session:

Pressure ulcer prevention and safe patient handling:
Can they be combined?

Speaker: Joyce M. Black, PhD, RN, CWCN, FAAN

Date: Wednesday, July 15, 1 - 2 pm EST

Patients at risk for pressure ulcers are often the same patients for whom safe patient handling is needed. A momentary choice of whether to move a patient alone or wait for help can lead to serious injury. However, the majority of injuries are repeated microtears of the soft tissue leading to long-term pain and even disability. This session will discuss how wise choices in equipment can permit the patient to be moved and reduce harm to you and your staff.
Objective: At the end of this webinar, participants will be able to understand how care givers can manage pressure ulcer prevention without experiencing microtrauma.

This free webinar is supported by an unrestricted educational grant from Sage Products.
