A new algorithm from the WOCN Society

A new algorithm from the WOCN
Venous leg ulcers are a costly health problem affecting a considerable portion of the population. The rate of recurrence of venous leg ulcers is high and often leads to disability and significant socioeconomic effects. Given that WOC nurses are regularly involved in the treatment of venous leg ulcers via selection of dressings and compression therapy, the WOCN Society decided to address the need for guidance in this area.

To that end, the Society is pleased to announce the launch of a new clinical tool -- an evidence- and consensus-based algorithm focusing on compression for primary prevention, treatment and prevention of recurrence of venous leg ulcers. The algorithm and its supporting research were published today in the Journal of Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing (JWOCN).

Follow the links below to learn more about this innovative new tool. We encourage you to share the algorithm with any of your colleagues that make decisions regarding the use of compression therapy in the prevention, treatment and prevention of recurrence of venous leg ulcers.

Development of the algorithm was funded via an unrestricted educational grant from JOBST/BSN medical.

You can access the algorithm at any time by visiting The algorithm functions like an app but does not require users to download anything. You can also add the algorithm icon to your mobile device for quick and easy access. Simply follow the instructions below:
