April 18-24, 2010 is Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Week and the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society (WOCN) has created materials to increase awareness of this observance. WOCN is providing a poster and patient brochure, and these reinforce the 2010 theme, Place Your Care in the Hands of an Expert.

Patient Letter Requesting WOC Nursing Services

The WOCN Society recognizes the superior care provided by WOC nurses, however there is still a limited availability of WOC nurses across the country. In order to help promote the specialty and create a demand for more WOC nurses, the Society has created a letter for patients to download and give to their health care providers. This will allow patients to self-advocate while expressing a desire for including a WOC nurse as part of their health care team.

Letter to the Editor Template

A "Letter to the Editor" is an excellent strategy for educating the public about the work of WOC nurses. Please use the letter as a supplement to offer information about WOC nursing in your geographic area. To obtain media contact information, review the editorial page of your local newspaper and submit the letter to the appropriate contact at least two weeks prior to April 18, 2010. Letters can be mailed, e-mailed or faxed, depending on each publication's preference.
