NORTHEAST CHAPTER WOCNEP SCHOLARSHIP

Are you an Entry level WOC student at a WOCNEP?

Current Scholarship Criteria
In 2025, two (2) $2,000 scholarships are available for nurses who:

  • Reside in the Northeast Region (New Jersey, New York, or Pennsylvania)
  • Have been accepted to a WOCN®-accredited Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing Education Program (WOCNEP), or
  • Are currently enrolled in a WOCN®-accredited WOCNEP program, or
  • Successfully completed a WOCN®-accredited WOCNEP program in the last 6 to 12 months.

Application Process and Considerations
A complete application consists of the following:

  • Applicants contact information, including place of residence, phone number and email.
  • Personal statement. Please write a one- to two-page personal statement that addresses the following:
    • History of your interest in the discipline and focus (e.g., wounds, ostomy, continence, or tri-specialty).
    • Your current position / professional responsibilities
    • How your background and experience would contribute to caring for diverse patient populations.
    • Past or current contributions to the WOCN® discipline (if applicable), plans for future contributions.
    • How and why this scholarship would help you achieve your professional goals.
  • A document from the WOCN®-accredited Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing Education Program (WOCNEP) demonstrating that the applicant meets one of the 3 WOCNEP eligibility criteria listed.
  • Two letters of recommendation from a professional associate or current employer to support applicant’s commitment to the WOCN® profession.
  • Proof of National WOCN® membership in good standing and/or Northeast Chapter membership.

Please note the following:
Preference will be given to full scope of WOCN® practice applicants. Winners are announced at the Northeast Chapter Fall Conference. Winners must submit a photograph/headshot. An excerpt from the submitted personal statement will be published on the Northeast Chapter website and on screen at the Chapter conference, along with the photo. By submitting the application, the applicant is providing permission for the Northeast Chapter to do so.

NO APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE DEADLINE.
Scholarship applications received on or before October 1, 2025 will be reviewed for eligibility and completeness by the Committee Chair. The applications will be distributed to the Scholarship Committee after all information potentially identifying the nominee has been redacted for an impartial blind vote by the Scholarship Committee members. The scoring for each applicant will be completed by residents of another state in the region. For example, if the applicant resides in New Jersey, the application will be reviewed by committee members living in New York and/or Pennsylvania.

Current Northeast Chapter Board members, including the Scholarship Committee members are not eligible for this award.

NORTHEAST CHAPTER ADVANCED PRACTICE SCHOLARSHIP

Are you a WOC Nurse pursing an Advanced Degree?
(Master’s, Doctoral, Nurse Practitioner, or Clinical Nurse Specialist Certification)

Scholarship Criteria
In 2025, one (1) nurse will be eligible to receive a $2000 advanced nursing scholarship if they are:

  • A current active member in good standing of the Northeast Chapter of the WOCN® Society
  • Employed within the Northeast Chapter in the clinical practice of wound, ostomy, continence, or foot care nursing.
  • Seeking a Master’s or Doctoral degree or NP/CNS Certificate.
  • Able to provide proof of current enrollment in an accredited university/program or completion in the past 3 – 6 months.
  • Certified by the WOCNCB® in one of the following: Wound, Ostomy, Continence and/or Foot Care
  • Able to provide a satisfactory letter of recommendation from a professional associate who has known the applicant for at least one year (a current employer or colleague is preferred). Please include contact information.
  • Not a previous recipient of a scholarship from the Northeast Chapter of the WOCN® Society in the past 3 years.
  • Please note that full scope (Wound, Ostomy, and Continence certified) will be given preference in a tie.

Upon submission of your application, the following items must be sent to the Northeast Chapter by October 1, 2025.

  • Personal statement describing your interest in graduate school and any contributions to the WOCN® Society at the National, Regional Chapter, or Local Community level (one to two pages). Please include any participation in professional WOC organizations, development of educational programs or projects, publications, posters, presentations, research and/or any teaching activities or precepting related to the WOCN discipline.
  • A document from the accredited nursing program or university with proof of current enrollment or graduation (past 3 – 6 months).
  • Proof of employment as a WOC nurse.
  • A satisfactory letter of recommendation from a professional associate who has known the applicant for at least one year.
  • Proof of National WOCN membership in good standing and Northeast Chapter WOCN® membership.Please note the following: Preference will be given to full scope of WOC nurses.
