WOCN Society COVID-19 Resources

We want to express our appreciation and gratitude for all that you are doing to deliver care during this time. Many of you are finding yourselves practicing on the frontlines, in your usual role of being called to work in another staff position. Thank you for unselfishly carrying out the duties required in this pandemic. We have included COVID-19 resources below to help you carry out your duties on the frontlines.

Connect With Other Members in the COVID-19 Community Forum

Guidance for Maintaining Skin Health When Utilizing Protective Masks for Prolonged Time Intervals

Wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), especially masks, often causes skin injuries including moisture damage, friction and pressure. The Guidance for Maintaining Skin Health When Utilizing Protective Masks for Prolonged Time Intervals document provides practical guidance to maintain skin integrity in the prolonged wear time of protective masks such as N-95 masks, surgical masks, face shields, and similar types of protective equipment. The head/face/cheek area of an individual are at highest risk. This document is the culmination of input from WOC nurses across the United States, each working to provide guidance for skin integrity issues being seen in this unprecedented time. This is not an evidence-based document.

Recommendations for Wound Assessment & Photo Documentation in Isolation

The COVID-19 Pandemic has affected all aspects of nursing care including wound care. In an effort to minimize unnecessary contact with patients and decrease the spread of the virus, wound providers need to consider alternative strategies to evaluate wounds using telehealth or telemedicine. Wound consults (either in person or remotely) can be managed using principles of basic wound assessment and photography (e.g. may be digital or video based dependent on facility approved methods) as described in the Recommendations for Wound Assessment & Photo Documentation in Isolation document.
