Competitive Bidding
The WOCN Society remains steadfast in its commitment to patient-centered care. We’re advocating for policies that prioritize the specialized needs of patients living with wounds, ostomies, and incontinence, ensuring that the right products remain accessible to those who need them most.
The WOCN Society does not support the inclusion of ostomy devices (pouching systems, equipment, and accessories) in the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services Durable Medical Equipment Prosthetics Orthotics and Supplies (DMEPOS) Competitive Bidding Program. While Competitive Bidding aims to reduce healthcare costs, it must not come at the expense of clinical necessity. Individuals with an ostomy require custom fitting of the pouching system and accessories to meet their individual medical and lifestyle needs.
GUIDING PRINCIPLES for sustainable access
This collaborative document outlines key principles supporting access to evidence-based ostomy care, specialized nursing services, innovation, and medically necessary ostomy products for individuals living with an ostomy.
